Early Concepts

Early ideas revolved around making a much larger version of the Candle Carousel popular around the holidays.

These are a few of the examples I could find online.

This is a first test of a 3D model with some of the carousel parts detailed.

Another early concept was the idea of having something generating motion while the fire is going and/or revealing a hidden 'something' as the fire burns down. This is a image of Hero's Engine-the first real prototype of a steam engine.

Theme announced: Vault of Heaven. This and the next couple shots are what others built with this theme in mind.

Larry Breed (a.k.a. Ember) came to an early meeting with his version of a multi-tiered pagoda...

..which turned into these versions once I had a chance to make some 3D models...

..and turned into this 1/4 scale model.

The part that finally sold me on this for the basic structure was when we (Arthur Z mostly) added a couple mirrors to make the 'infinite mirror' reflective effect often seen in barber shops.
