On the Saturday 8 days before the gates open to burning man, DPW has a party/burn night to turn the city over to the artists that are beginning to arrive. This year, I contributed a piece to burn.

On the morning that I arrived (saturday) I was looking for the camp placement person when a random DPW guy asked me if I was driving over to the morning meeting. Sure, why not?

The one thing I heard at the meeting that appealed to me was that "Anyone can make something to burn tonight at 'Early Man'".

Cool! I brought the first ball prototype with me to burn somewhere along the way, why not my first night in town?

I rigged up a tower with a rope and turned my 30Lb 'Ball' into a tether ball. Loaded with a bit of magnesium turnings that I brought, it burned well, though I didn't manage to get any photos. (oops.)

I got part of the back-story on this one. Apparantly a crane collapsed when trying to pick up a load and crashed into a couple of portapotties that kep it from being destroyed in the fall. This fire started with the crane falling over and the whole thing exploding into firw when the portapotties where crushed. Very cool!
